MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) – Get ready for some top-flight action in a hidden gem in Montgomery.
The Lagoon Park Trail opened its doors a few years ago. It has several kilometers of walking areas and trails through the woods for mountain bikers. Now they have something new. It’s a BMX track that offers a nice challenge for those who like to tackle it.
“It’s the only thing like it in Montgomery,” Ed Grimes said with the Lagoon Park Trail. “We have hired FlowMotion Anniston to build this section.
It all started for security reasons.
“I was driving with my daughter and a car pulled up around the corner. I decided we needed a safe place to ride and not interact with traffic. said Grimes.
Now cyclists, walkers and runners across the river region exercise on the trail.
“It’s a great convenience for the city. It is a question of quality of life. Millennials ride their bikes and want to go out, exercise, and do exciting things. Grimes added.
May 18, Lagoon Park Trail will host the Beaver Trail 5K, mountain bike time trials and a big air BMX competition. You can get all the details and registration information on its website.
Young bikers already like what they see.
“From the top of the hill to the bottom, there are chances to get some fresh air,” said BMX rider Lucas Irvin.
Organizers are hoping for a large turnout, so that more people can learn more about this somewhat hidden attraction in Montgomery. There will be food and music near the Pete Peterson Lodge, where most of the action takes place.
“Our approach to the event is threefold,” said Grimes. “We want some awareness to let them know we’re here, and to get people to ride and fundraising. All the money goes to the track.”
The folks with the Lagoon Park Trail have a pretty simple motto.
“Let go of your tail and out on the trail.”
