The Blue Lagoon yesterday won the Environmental Company of the Year award at the Environment Day ceremony. The home delivery service was also awarded for this year’s initiative in the field of environmental issues, reports Vísir.

As the Icelandic winter approaches, we search for our cozy traditional lopapeysa sweaters, the beautiful woolen garments that have kept Icelanders warm for generations. They are available for international delivery through our online store, and ours are hand-knitted here in Iceland from local wool.

The awards are presented by the Confederation of Icelandic Business, the Icelandic Travel Industry Association, Finance Iceland, Fisheries Iceland, the Federation of Icelandic Industries and the Federation of Trade and Services. The Environmental Company of the Year award was presented to the winner by the President of Iceland, Guðni Th. Johannesson.

The Blue Lagoon has neutralized its carbon activity since 2019 by planting trees and growing algae. The company’s carbon emissions accounting and plastic footprint are also monitored, enabling the Blue Lagoon to make operational improvements and reduce the company’s impact on the environment.

In an announcement from the Confederation of Icelandic Businesses, it is stated that the world-famous spa has implemented an environmental management system and completed the certification process for quality, environment and safety management. It also received the Blue Flag, a world-renowned ecolabel, in 2013.
