Blue Lagoon Centers Bevendean Baby Pool Plan

A SWIMMING school hopes to have the third chance with its project to transform an industrial unit into learning centers.

Blue Lagoon Centers has submitted plans to Brighton and Hove City Council to install four small learning pools in Unit 9.3 at The Hyde in Bevendean.

The company operates a baby swimming school in Eastbourne and is looking to expand to Brighton.

Previous requests to operate at Brighton Marina and near the Goldstone industrial area have failed, but Blue Lagoon manager Carl Meek believes Bevendean is the ideal location, especially since it is well served by public transport.

Mr Meek said the focus was on children’s swimming lessons at two of the pools and on private rental and physiotherapy sessions.

He said: “Private swimming pools are used throughout the city by existing swimming schools, and unfortunately they are a plague on the neighbors – problems with parking and the sheer volume of people overwhelm the domestic setting.

“Our dedicated center will provide people with a better facility all around.”

In its request, Blue Lagoon includes a letter from commercial real estate consultant Flude confirming that the site was in the industrial market for three years without success.

The plans can be viewed and commented on on the Brighton and Hove City Council planning website, planningapps.brighton-hove.gov.uk, by searching for BH2021 / 01784.
