A nature reserve near Houston is the largest in America
When you think of Houston, the first thing that probably comes to mind is do not all the lovely nature and wildlife of the city. That doesn’t mean Houstonians don’t live close to beauty, in fact, there is a nature preserve near Houston this proves that they do! The area happens to be the largest urban nature preserve in the United States and is home to many exotic and beautiful animals.
The Armand Bayou Nature Center in Pasadena is a transient preserve made up of coastal wetlands, forests, grasslands, and salt marshes.
It’s a bit of dirt to be in one place, but that’s why there’s only one place like this in the United States
You can visit the nature paradise from Wednesday to Saturday anytime between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The last entry ticket is sold out at 4pm, but honestly, an hour doesn’t seem like enough time to see all that this giant reserve has to offer.
Tickets are $6 per person, which when you do the math is very little to see and experience so many.
And while you’re there, you may even encounter an animal or two.
The wildlife that inhabits this place is as varied as the land itself.
Many animals call the reserve home, ranging from bison to bald eagles.
It is the largest nature reserve in the United States with over 370 different species of animals living on the 2500 acres of the reserve.
It’s mind-boggling to think there’s such an expanse of land with stray animals so close to Houston!
Go visit and see animals that you would otherwise have had to travel to another state or even continent seeing is already a treat in itself.
The icing on the cake is that they also offer a ton of activities that can allow you to explore the diverse landscape.
You can get out on the water with everything from pontoon boat cruises to kayak tours.
Or, if you prefer to stay on land, they have a bunch of different hikes such as photo hikes, bat hikes and even night hikes.
It’s a unique experience and one of the only places in the United States with as many protected animals as there are.
And it’s right in Houston’s backyard!
